  • Venice Car Rental

You cannot think of Venice, Italy as being a single place. The city is actually situated on more than 115 tiny islands, connected by canals and bridges. It is one of the most famous (and infamous) cities in the world with a long history of art, architecture, intrigue, and breathtaking scenery. Many of those who have visited this city in the past, suggest that new visitors rent a car in Venice if they want to make the most of their stay.

Entire books have been written on the hundreds of attractions that are to be found in Venice. Here are only a few of the many things to do here.

It is no secret that St. Mark's Basilica is the most famous church in Venice, filled with history as well as art. You can find it on the edge of the Grand Canal, connected to the Doge's Palace. The oldest known exterior mosaic can be seen above the cathedral's front doors.

The Piazza San Marco is well known by people all over the world. It is the only true “piazza” in the city (the others are “campi”). On three sides of the square you can see some of the most famous buildings of Venice, and you certainly want to have your camera with you.

The Doges Palace is also a popular site and you will want to have a couple of hours, at least, to explore all three areas. While here, make it a point to check out the Bridge of Signs which connects the Palace to the Old Prison.

In order to get car rentals in Italy, you will need your driver's license as well as an International Driver's Permit. The permit is easy to get before you go on your trip. While driving in Italy, make sure you have your license, permit, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance.
