  • 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-in

    From January 30 2012 Toyota Motor Corporation starts selling new modification of its hybrid car Prius PHV which can be charged from any standard electric outlet. Full charge takes only 1.5 hours. This is a great car for those drivers who take a lot of short trips and have an opportunity to frequently plug it in to outlets and charge.

    Engine capacity of the new Prius Plug-in is 1.8.litre. It equally well runs on gas and electricity. One charge of 4.4kW lithium battery is enough to drive 16 miles and 1 litre of gas – to drive 38 miles. In case you ran out of electric charge Prius Plug-in automatically switches to hybrid mode and runs on the gas. The price of a new Prius will be 41,000 – 54,000 dollars. Toyota expects to sell 35,000 – 40,000 such cars a year.

    This week at Tokyo Motor show Toyota will introduce new five door Prius C Hatchback fitted with 1.5-litre gasoline engine and electric motor. Its fuel consumption rate is 4.7L/100Km. It will appear on the market late in December 2011.
