  • From Mercedes and Volvo to AvtoVAZ!

A former designer from Mercedes Benz and Volvo, Steve Mattin, on October the 1st will be the chief designer of "AvtoVAZ".

“The relevant contract with Mattin was signed a few days ago”, said company president Igor Komarov to the journalists on Wednesday.

Mattin has worked for Mercedes for 17 years, where he developed the design of urban A-Class, a representative S-Class, SUVs - ML and GL. From 2005 to 2009 he was a design director in Volvo and was involved in creating such models like Volvo S60 and XC60.

According to Mattins words he will build in "AvtoVAZ" "the brand, the culture and the strategy".

Earlier in August, the company reported that its profit in the first half amounted to 2.065 billion rubles against the loss of 724 million rubles in the same period last year.

The profit from car sales in the company is attributed primarily to an increase inprofitability. Also a positive effect on earnings growth in sales has caused the interest of potential buyers in the acquisition of vehicles on the state program of recycling of used cars, which operated in Russia since March 2010.
