  • Volkswagen can get top spot on world car market already in 2011

    German car giant Volkswagen is eager to become the major automaker in the world by the year 2018. But it can achieve its goal 7 years earlier than originally planned. Last year the leader was Toyota, but this year Volkswagen can take the lead due to circumstances, which were against Toyota.

    Earthquake in march 2011 and following thunderous tsunami seriously affected Toyota positions, which currently is at the top spot in world car industry. Second place last year had ex-leader General Motors. The third was Volkswagen, which, thanks to successful sales of its brand in China and Europe, significantly increase its positions this year.

    According to results of first half-year period, Volkswagen fixed its own sales record on the mark of 4 million cars. As company chairman Martin Winterkorn said, by the end of the year this mark must grow up to 8 million.

    Analytical agency JD Power predicts Volkswagen 7.8 million sold cars. General Motors by the results of 2011 will finish second with 7.2 million sold cars. Toyota will be just fourth with 6.7 million cars. Third place agency gives to Renault-Nissan, which will realize 6.8 million cars.
