  • Volkswagen has sold more cars in 2011 than Toyota

According to the results of 2011, Volkswagen company has sold 8.16 million cars worldwide which is 14.3% more comparing to 2010. As a result, it left behind Toyota Corporation – the leader of the year before last.

Last year Toyota managed to sell only 7.9 million cars which is six percent less than in 2010. Its sagging demand is explained primarily with cars deficit which stems from March earthquake in Japan. Toyota was harmed most of local carmakers and was forced out to stop car manufacturing for a month at its local plants. At foreign plants car manufacturing went in a slow tempo.

According to analysts, Volkswagen will take second place among carmakers by the sold cars amount. As they say, the last year leader will be American auto giant General Motors, which has not published its worldwide sales report yet. According to expectations, this index will be approximately 9 million cars.

In 2010 Toyota realized 8.42 million cars and took the first place in car sales. Japanese Corporation kept this title from 2008. On the second place the year before last was General Motors and Volkswagen was located on the third.
