  • Americans are considered the most talkative drivers

    The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has called its nationals the most talkative drivers. 69% of Americans talk on the cell phone at least once in a month and 31% types or reads text messages when driving.

    Second in the list are Portuguese – 59% of its drivers talk on the phone at the wheel and 31% types and reads SMS. The lowest number of drivers calling or receiving calls on their cell phones when driving is fixed in United Kingdom – 21%.

    In addition to USA, Portugal and United Kingdom, the research has also been conducted in Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Spain and France. The number of drivers talking on the cell phone in each of these countries was less compared with Americans. Besides, France became the only country where number of mobile operator subscribers is less than in the U.S. For example, there are 105 subscribers for 100 French people and 106 among Americans. The largest number of cellular data users is fixed in United Kingdom: 131 for 100 people.

    According to experts, 24% (about 840 thousand) of 3.5 million Americans injured in road traffic accidents, got hurt because of the mobile gadgets use at the wheel. Statistically, the number of men and women using cell phones at the wheel, is more or less equal, besides, young drivers use gadgets more often compared to older drivers.

    In August 2012 scientists of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology stated that cell phones are used at the wheel by people initially predisposed for reckless driving. Experts made a conclusion, that prohibitions on use of various gadgets when driving are ineffective.
