    Hot Pic Title

Automotive manufacturer BMW introduced a hybrid one-box car called Active Tourer Concept being the first ever BMW front-wheel drive vehicle.

However, it does not mean that all company's models will be front-wheel drive from now on – it is most likely that a new platform will be used for compact models meant for family use. Coupes and cabriolets will remain rear-driven.

Another thing that makes this hybrid car special is a brand new 1.5L three-cylinder turbocharged engine. The aggregate capacity of Active Tourer's engine unit is 190 hp. It accelerates up to 100 kph in less than eight second, its maximum speed is 200 kph and fuel consumption is 2.5L per 100 km. The car is fitted with electric motor and lithium ion batteries as well. It may cover about 32 km on electric traction and the battery can be charged from the 220-volt power outlet but it is not known what time will be required for it yet.

The interior is properly technically equipped. Its key element is a panoramic roof called Cool Shade. Its level of transparency can be adjusted individually. There will be several displays inside the car including a central 8-inch screen demonstrating an information about the current status of a car.

The new car will be officially introduced at the 2012 Paris Motor Show and chances are that it will become a production vehicle already next spring. Mercedes-Benz B-Class and Volkswagen Touran may be considered to be its main rivals.
