European authorities are going to take measures to make a vehicle registration process a lot easier. Thanks to these measures it won't be necessary to pay for a long stay with a personal vehicle in a foreign country anymore and the extra charge to return a hired car from the drop-off point to a rental car company.

According to a new law, that is being developed by the European Commission at the moment, the vehicle should be registered in Europe only once – at owner's residence. It means that the owner of the car won't have to re-register it by the place of his residence if he situates in a foreign country for a long time. This simplified procedure will save not only a precious time, but € 400 as well – the price, which a European resident must pay for every re-registration.

This changes will make a positive impact to a car rental industry too and it will be cheaper to hire a car abroad thanks to it. According to a new law, you should not necessary return the car in a country, where you picked it up, if you went abroad with it.

Such major car rental companies as Hertz, Avis and Sixt already give their clients an opportunity to drop off cars abroad, but extra charge in this case often exceeds the rental cost. After this law will be adopted, renters will have an opportunity to rent out their vehicles abroad without returning them to a pick up point.
