  • Europe is going to cut the road speed limit

    Sep 19, 2013, 07:31
    Hot Pic Title

As envisioned by project owners, devices will be controlled by satellite, tracking scorchers going over the speed limit. It is now being discussed where to put sensors – inside the road signs or on the boards located on highways. Such an indicator will be able to recognize the manoeuvre of a scorcher and send “Stop” command to a special device inside the car that will gear it down. The question is not about stopping the car completely, of course.

The idea is explained by the drivers' safety concern: about 30,000 people are dying on the European roads every year. However, this project caused a hot dispute in European Union countries and was actively criticized. And first of all – by drivers themselves. According to them, by fitting their vehicles with a device connected to satellite, The Big Brussels Brother gets an additional control over their private life and it is is particularly topical in view of recent scandals with wiretapping.

Besides, according to experts, sometimes it is simply necessary for the drivers to be able to gather speed quickly in order to avoid a collision or tricky road situations.
