Finnair, the flag carrier and largest airline of Finland, has introduced the flight check-in service with the use of Facebook.

Passengers are able to connect their profile with an aircraft seat map and see who else has checked in on the same flight. Thanks to a new service, users can inform their friends in social network where they are about to go, what their departure and arrival time is.

According to Finnair representatives, a lot of people post information about their oncoming journey or trip in Facebook. Airline has slightly simplified check-in process and added an opportunity for users to receive information about other passengers, because a lot of them would like to communicate in the air and may become acquainted against each other. Finnair wants to make air travel more social and find new ways to utilize social media during customer journey.

In that way, users can only see public statuses in Facebook of other passengers' of their flight. Check-in service via social network is voluntary – it may be unchecked at any time, so other passengers could not see user profile and his seat number.

It is possible to check-in for a flight only via Facebook, but Finnair is going to add other social networks anytime soon as well.
