Just a few weeks are left until the presentation of the car that very surprised all BMW fans. But German car maker decided to take a risk and very soon we will see the first ever front-wheel drive BMW.
The famous car manufacturer is really interested in front-wheel drive compact cars segment and the fact that a concept-car which is known as a BMW Compactive Sport Tourer and will be introduced at the Paris Motor Show, is going to become a production vehicle. It was officially announced that it will be marked as a 1-Serie GT.
The production of a BMW sportvan will start in 2014. The new model will become a rival of Mercedes-Benz B-Class Sports Tourer and upcoming cars of MST family based on a C-class.
BMW does not agree with a statement that it abandons its traditions by starting producing front-wheel cars and points to a fact that BMW 1-Serie GT will be based on a new universal platform deriving from a new MINI Cooper platform which in its turn is built on a front-wheel drive architecture.
Despite gear differences, the design of a new model remained classic – first of all it concerns the form of an inclined roof, glass and branded radiator grill. The production version will be fitted with very fuel-efficient engines: three-cylinder 1.5L petrol engine and four-cylinder 2L turbocharged diesel engine. Both engines will be offered combined with a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic transmission. Besides, BMW plans to produce hybrid and completely electrical versions of a front-wheel drive car.
