Roads in Germany are justly considered to be some of the best in the world but their quality had been heavily criticized within the country recently.

As German Chamber of Commerce and Industry representatives say, condition of highways leaves much to be desired and Germany needs 2.5 bln EUR for its improvement and road pavement maintenance.

It is expected, that it will take about 22 bln Eur more to fund the expanding of road network and construction of new autobahns in the next 10 years. German Federal Ministry of Transport agrees with that adding that repair and modernization had been ignored for too long.

As local authorities in West Germany say, road condition all over the region is beneath criticism and country needs 7.2 bln EUR to maintain infrastructure in a proper condition. In order to improve the road quality, it is offered to make the drive over autobahns to be paid-for and introduce extra charges for truck owners with a gross vehicle weight rating over 3,500 kg. In fact, road condition in Germany is criticized within the country not for the first time.
