Citroen company is going to revive 2CV model which had a nickname “the ugly duckling” and introduce it at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Production version of the car called E3 Essential will make its debut in Spring 2014.

Its design will be quite similar to C Cactus concept car, that was introduced in Frankfurt five years ago. According to manufacturers, the price of a new car won't be high and it will be brought mainly to European market. 2CV will be manufactured in Madrid, because labor force in Spain is cheaper than in France. The car will be 4.2 meters longwise and fitted with 82 or 100 hp petrol engines or 92 hp diesel motor as well.

In order to make this model as cheap as possible, Citroen is not going to fit it with multimedia touch screen system, start-stop system and cruise-control. The basic version of E3 Essential will cost about 16,000 EUR, which is 2,000 EUR cheaper than C4.

The first concept-car that was made by Citroen based on 2CV has been introduced in 2009. It was called Revolte and has been fitted with hybrid engine unit. French manufacturer specified at the time that this car is not a successor of 2CV, which has been manufactured since the end of 1940s.
