The best city in Europe to visit in 2012 is determined based on the results of online voting of more than 200,000 travelers and tourism industry workers.
20 European cities claimed the victory, but only one of them was selected as winner: Porto, the second largest city in Portugal (car hire Portugal).
According to the authors of the research, Porto has so wide range of traveling opportunities, that it can draw attention of every tourist. Some of them will esteem its history and originality, while others will praise its cosmopolitanism and modernity, larger than any of its European city-rivals have. Porto is famous with its Port wine, the outstanding urban landscape of Historic Centre, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996, museums, wonderful gardens and parks, as well as fashion boutiques of national and international designers.
Second in the list is Vienna, the capital of Austria (car rental Austria). Tourists appraise this city for its exclusive luxury hotels, located along the Inner Ring, which were elegant palaces once. Such famous five-star hotels as the Imperial, Bristol, Grand Hotel, Palais Coburg Residenz, Sacher and Marriott Vienna are located in the 1st district of the city.
A lot of voters mentioned in its answers the city of Dubrovnik – popular Croatian (car hire Croatia) destination on the Adriatic Sea, which, as a result, finished third in the list. Among must visiting places there it is worth mentioning the main street of the city, called Stradun or Placa. Take a walk there and you will get an unforgettable impressions of stunning views of one of the most beautiful Mediterranean cities, made of stone and surrounded with 1,940 m long stone wall.
