    Hot Pic Title

Yet another 15th Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique has ended in Monte-Carlo. Racing team “RE Autoclub”, sponsored by “”, also took part in it.

“RE Autoclub” crew, consisting of pilot Robert Elbakyan and navigator Alexander Terentyev Jr. on “Mosvitch 408”, released in 1974, took 158th place in overall standings. More than 300 crews started the race and only 214 managed to finish successfully.

From January 28th to February 4th contestants drove 12 of planned 14 stages. Two stages were canceled due to adverse weather conditions. On Saturday, after driving all the night through, racers passed the finish line in Monte-Carlo. After summing up the results, medal ceremony and well-deserved rest, racers were received by the Monaco Royal Family.

According to Robert Elbakyan, “Moskvitch” is one of the most legendary Historic Rally vehicles. He made sure of it personally after meeting in Monte-Carlo with a man from Finland, who told him how 40 years ago he saw “Mosvitch” driving over the race track in Jyväskylä. “Moskvitch” is perfectly matched for participating in this race because it proves its reliability and commitment to compete with such great cars as “Mercedes”. Last rally stages only confirmed this, when “Moskvitch” without any troubles passed snow-covered route sections, while many competitors had difficulties there.

The winner of the race became Jose Lareppe from Belgium on Opel Kadett GTE 1978, who managed to leave behind Jeane-Pierre Coppola from France on Alpine Renault A310, released in 1972 and Monty Karlan from Norway on Porsche 911 SC 1978.

Robert Elbakyan is sure that within a year “RE Autoclub” will return to Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique on “Mosvitch” and “Volga” and will achieve even better result. This year “RE Autoclub” already passed through the South-American heat, driving over the “Dakar” route, and through snow and ice on European roads.
