Volvo lineup will be seriously regenerated up to the year of 2018. The company is going to develop new compact hatchback and SUV, as well as a new sedan, able to compete with BMW 5-Series.

The first of these models to be brought on the market in 2016, will be compact SUV XC40, taking place in the model range between V40 Cross Country hatchback and XC60 SUV. This model, built on the all-new platform, will compete with Mercedes-Benz GLA and BMW X1.

At its heels there will be manufactured a five door hatchback, smaller by its overall size than V40, and compact sedan, ideological successor of S40 which is already taken out of production. S90 family will become top for Volvo and will be provided in sedan and estate car versions. It is expected that it will hit the market in 2016.

Another Volvo model, that will supposedly be introduced soon, is C60 coupe with seat arrangement “2+2”, which design is made based on P1800 model being produced in 1960's. This two door car will compete with such vehicles as Audi A5 and BMW 4-Series.

As previously reported, all Volvo models are supposed to be built on only two modular platforms: one for compact vehicles and other, called SPA (Scalable Platform Architecture), for large models, starting with 60-Series. First Volvo fitted with SPA chassis will be next-generation XC90 SUV.

There will remain only three- and four-cylinder aggregates in a motor range of all upcoming Volvo cars. According to preliminary information, its power will be 207 hp for three-cylinder versions and 308 for four-cylinder.
