If you book your car for one week from the airport, you can expect to pay around $30 per day for your rental car. That same car rented from the airport for only one day, would go for nearly $60 per day, any time of year. And if you rent from a location outside of the airport, the price almost doubles unless you have a coupon or some other form of discount.

If you can, always book your rental car for as many days as possible and be sure to pick up and drop off at the airport for the lowest possible rates.

Travel Tips – General Rules

1. Speed limits on Maui are much lower than many other parts of the world. While in Kahului, don`t expect to drive any faster than 45 mph anywhere in the city. In fact, even outside of the city, speeds never exceed 55 mph on the island`s small, one-lane roads.
2. Always be on the lookout for animals, both wild and domestic, while driving in Maui. The tight, winding roads often have short visibility, and there are many animals which like to use the roads for their own transportation.
3. Any valid driving license is legal in Hawaii, and there is no need to obtain an International Driving Permit (IDP).
4. Seatbelts are mandatory. This includes people of all ages and both the front and back seats.
