Important checklist for renting cars

By following this checklist you'll maximize your protection from being unfairly charged for pre-existing damages and ensure a safe and pleasant rental experience.

Make sure to review rental documents:

  • Rental agreement
  • Insurance policy
  • Contact information in case of emergency

Inspect exterior and note existing damages:

  • Scratches, dents, rust etc.
  • Cracks or chips on windshield or windows
  • Check tires and wheels for any signs of damage

Inspect interior of the car:

  • Check that the interior is clean and has no odors
  • Test car controls, such as air conditioning, heating, radio and GPS
  • Ensure that dashboard does not show any warning signs

Document current car condition:

  • Use your smartphone to take photos or a video of the car's condition before leaving the lot
  • Ask rental company to fill out a pre-existing damage list
  • Record the car's starting mileage and fuel level

Car rental return:

  • Make a short video or take pictures of the car's condition
  • Ask for a final receipt
  • Request a final walkthrough with a rental company representative

Additional equipment as child seats, additional driver, ski rack, GPS etc are not included in the prepaid rate. Additional extras are on request and payable locally to the agent when the vehicle is collected. Any charges payable locally may be subject to local VAT/Sales Tax. EconomyBookings will pass on all requests to the supplier in advance of your arrival, but unfortunately cannot guarantee the availability of any extras.

To rent a car you will need to provide a valid physical driving license (International Driving permit if renting abroad), ID card (passport if renting abroad), rental voucher (you receive it once the booking is completed). You may make the payment online with a debit card, but at the rental counter you`ll be required to provide a physical credit card under the main driver's name.

A driving license must be presented at pick-up. The car won’t be provided to you if your license has expired or is provisional. When you rent a car abroad, in some countries you will need an International Driving Permit (often called International Driving License). Please note that International Driving License is only valid when used in conjunction with your valid national driving license. Please check your voucher to see if you need one or not.
